KENDALL’S STORY

I was 14 years old when I knew I wanted to be a journalist, thanks to the age old strategy of choosing a career – what are you good at and what do you enjoy?

I was excellent at English and I loved talking to people. The two combined were the perfect fit for a life of connecting, creating and storytelling. So, journalism it was!

I’d grown up watching Mel and Kochie on Sunrise each morning and the local news anchors each evening. I became obsessed with consuming and comparing each network’s content. I would channel surf to see how they covered a major event. Which presenter did they send? How long do they stay on each topic? Who has exclusive pictures? Looking back it’s an obvious love affair.

Fast forward a decade and I would be offered the role of presenting a brand new hour long 4pm bulletin to be aired across Queensland. I was just 24 years old. The youngest full time news reader the country had ever seen.

Since then I’ve worked in radio, hosted a podcast, been a columnist for News Limited, held several ambassadorships and hosted hundreds of events. I’m now also exploring my passion for governance as a Board Director with Hockey Queensland.
